Choir Performance!

Our performance of "Attitude of Gratitude" will be next Sunday, November 8, at 6:00 PM in the Chapel. We will still have our regular 5:00 rehearsal and will meet in our room. For the performance, please wear casual clothes (jeans are fine) and try to stick to fall colors as much as possible (browns, oranges, greens, etc.) Make sure that your kids are getting all of the last minute practicing in! There are still a few places where they are struggling a bit with the lyrics. It is going to be a great program, so invite all of your friends, family, and neighbors!!! :)

Practice, Practice, Practice!

The kids did an awesome job at rehearsal this evening! I encouraged them to keep practicing the words to the songs! Especially those with solos! Our performance will be on November 8 at 6:00 PM in the chapel. We will still have our normal rehearsal that evening at 5:00. See you all next Sunday!

Welcome to Choir!!!

Another exciting year of choirs has officially begun! I had a great time this evening meeting all of the new faces and seeing some familiar ones as well. I hope the kids enjoyed themselves. IMPORTANT NOTE!!!

Please note...the musical performance is scheduled for 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 22. The bulletin and the church website have been listing it as 6:30 which is incorrect. Please tell everyone that you think may be planning to come!!! Sorry about the confusion!

Saturday, the kids will need to report for dress rehearsal at 9:00 am. Please be prompt so that Sherry can get started right away. I will be a bit late due to another commitment. Practice will last until 12 noon. Please dress in the outfit that you will be wearing for our Sunday performance. For more information on costumes, please refer to my previous posts.

For Saturday, we will take a short break sometime in the middle of rehearsal. Please send a small snack and drink with your child for this break. We are hoping that it will be nice enough to let them go outside and get some fresh air while having their snack.

On Sunday, the children will need to meet in the worship center at 3:30 for a run-through before our performance.

If I have forgotten anything, I will update later...make sure the kids are still practicing their lines!!! Please feel free to email me with any questions!

Have a great week!

More Important Info. about next Sunday Morning and Costumes!!!

Hello everyone! I hope your week is off to a great start! I have some information about costumes and props as well as info about singing in church services next Sunday morning.

The entire cast and choir has been invited to sing in the 9:30 blended service in the auditorium as well as the 11:00 traditional service in the chapel. We will be singing "Come As You Are" and "He's Alive" along with a worship song with Drew in the 9:30 service and "Lazarus Come Out" in the 11:00. Please bring your children to the worship center at 8:30 Sunday morning for rehearsal. They will need to meet back stage in the choir room (101) at 9:15. We will make sure that everyone gets to their classrooms after our performance. Then we will meet in the hallway to the left of the chapel at 10:40 to line up. We will open the service with our song and then the kids will be dismissed to parents or taken back to their classes.

We still need several of our props. We have the lab coat, graduation gown, gavel, and bucket. If you have any of the other items mentioned in the last post, we would appreciate any help with that!

As for costumes. The biblical characters will have costumes provided during their scene. During the other parts of the musical, they will be "jury members". Everyone who is in the choir (except for bailiff, judge, lawyers, reporters and Simon) need to dress in "business casual" attire for the musical. We suggest polo shirts or button up shirts for the boys with khakis or dress pants. We prefer no jeans. Ladies may wear a casual dress, skirt, or dress pants and a nice blouse or sweater. Please make sure that shoes have backs on them and do not slip off easy as we will be moving around a lot. Please wear your performance attire to our dress rehearsal on Saturday.

Judge - button up white or light colored shirt with dark pants.
Bailiff - dark colored pants and a light blue or white button up shirt (long or short sleeved is fine)
Lawyers - pencil skirt or slacks with a nice blouse or blazer if you have one.
Reporters - skirt/slacks and blouse or blazer if you have one or a simple dress.
Simon - we will provide a biblical costume. Please wear shorts and a short sleeved shirt for under and sandals.

Keep an eye on the blog this week for updates when I have them. As always, if you have questions, please feel free to send me an email! Enjoy your week!

Important Choir Info!!!

Hello everyone! Our musical is less than 3 weeks away, now. Please remember that beginning this Sunday, March 8, we will meet at 4:00 PM in the Worship Center. We will still practice until 6.

We have been having some issues with memorization the last couple of weeks. I talked to the kids that need to work extra hard this week to get their lines down. A lot of times it isn't that they don't know the lines, it's that they don't know WHEN to say them. Please have them work on their parts as much as possible in the next couple of weeks. We also discussed the importance of memorizing the lines as they are written to keep with the story line and help with cues for the other actors.

We also need the kids to really focus on the words to the songs while they are listening to the CDs. Have them listen as well as follow along with their folders so they can get the words down.

Since we need the kids to practice the songs and speaking parts extra hard this week, we will not be doing a memory verse from here on out.

On Sunday, March 15, we will be performing some selections from our show during some of the morning worship services. Details will follow as soon as we have them finalized.

We are looking for the following props to use for our musical. If you have any of these items that you would be willing to lend us, we would be very grateful. Please email me asap if you can help!

Judges gavel

Black graduation gown

Fishing hat w/lures

Fishing poles (3 – 4) w/no hooks or line

Police Badge and/or patches

Briefcase

Leather folder(s) or binders

5 gallon bucket (1 or2)

White lab coat

If you have any questions about upcoming rehearsals, please don't hesitate to email me. Have a great week and we'll see you all on Sunday!!!

I apologize for not getting a post up last week with a memory verse.

Please keep in mind that beginning on Sunday, March 8, the entire cast and choir will meet from 4 - 6 for the remainder of the session. Choir This Week

Greetings! We can tell that the kids have been listening to those CDs! Some of them have set their folders aside already because they have the songs memorized! Mrs. Sherry and I don't even have them all memorized! The kids are doing a great job!

We were amazed yesterday by the amount of talent that turned out for the auditions. What a difficult job!!! Now that the parts have been assigned, it's time to talk about next week.

Our memory verse for the week is:

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." (Revelation 22:13)

Please remember for EVERYONE that has a speaking part that practice begins this Sunday at 4:00. Choir members should still come at 5:00. If there is any question about the weather, please make sure to check either the church web site or this blog. We will make sure to post any cancellations that may occur.

Have a wonderful week!!!

Choir This Week

We handed out the practice CDs this evening at rehearsal. If you were absent and did not receive one, we will have more next week. If you need a copy to practice for the auditions, please let me know and I will try to make arrangements for you to pick one up at the church during the week.

Auditions are next Sunday! If you didn't get a chance to sign up, we still have a few openings. Email me asap if you are interested in auditioning!

Auditions scripts were emailed to everyone who signed up for an audition. If you did not receive yours, please let me know so that I can make sure to get it to you!

Here is this week's memory verse. Have your kids memorize it for a small prize.

"After Jesus was baptized, He went up immediately from the water. The heavens suddenly opened for Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming down on Him" (Matthew 3:16)

Have a great week!

Praise Company Calendar!

I'm so excited about our calendar being available to everyone! Please check each week for updates and additions. Our schedule should remain as is unless there is bad weather. If you click on each entry on the calendar, you can see the time, description, and location of each event. There is also an option to copy the event to your own calendar. Hopefully this will help cut down on a lot of the confusion when we move our meeting locations! See you all Sunday!

Welcome to Praise Company's New Blog!

Hello everyone! I decided to start this blog for our Praise Company choir so that everyone could receive up-to-date information about our rehearsals, auditions, and performances at any time without having to save a bunch of emails from me :)

Tonight's choir started of great! We had over 30 kids participate this evening and still several more who are signed up to come. It's not too late to join, so please invite your friends!

For those of you who do not know, we will be performing the musical Simon Says - The rockin' trial of Simon Peter. The following are some important dates to remember:

Sunday, January 18, 2009 - Audition Sign Ups
Sunday, January 25, 2009 - Auditions
Saturday, March 21, 2009 - Dress Rehearsal from 9:00 am until 12 noon
Sunday, March 22, 2009 - Performance date

Beginning next Sunday morning, there will be a poster in the children's wing at church for you to sign up for an audition time. We will be holding auditions during the afternoon of January 25 and will still have our regular rehearsal that evening. When you sign up for an audition, please provide an email address as we will email the audition packets with the scripts to practice. The music CDs will be distributed next Sunday at our regular rehearsal.

What to expect for the audition: We will ask the children to prepare one of the selections from the audition packet and/or a selection of one of the songs (of their choice) from the CD. The script will not need to be memorized for the audition, but we do like them to be familiar with the part. All of the script is also acted out on the CD, so they will be able to choose a part that they are most interested in. Anyone may audition for a speaking part, a solo, or both. Please be advised that should your child be chosen for a speaking part, there is an extra time commitment. Practices for drama are held each Sunday from 4:00 - 5:00 and regular choir is still from 5:00 - 6:00. Actors will need to attend BOTH hours. Those wishing to only have a solo part will not be required to attend extra rehearsals. We will usually have the results of the auditions within a day or two and will begin the drama rehearsals on February 1.

We will also be incorporating some memory verses into our rehearsals that pertain to the musical. If the children memorize the verse each week, they will receive a small prize. This week's verse is: "We have seen and we testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world" (1 John 4:14)

As always, feel free to email me with any questions. My inbox is always open :) I'm looking forward to another wonderful musical. We have a lot of new faces this year! See you all at rehearsals!
